Yemen’s Supreme Commission for Elections and Referendum (SCER) announced the voting results for the early Presidential election revealing that the total number of voters in the elections was 6,660,093, exceeding by far the number of voters in the 2006 presidential elections.
Vice President Hadi was the only candidate on the election ballot and will be the country’s next president.
The voting turnout would not have mattered and Hadi was going to be elected president of Yemen in accordance to the power transfer deal that was signed last November putting an end President Ali Saleh’s 33 years of power.
Hadi is expected to be sworn in to power Saturday morning.
An official inauguration will take place Monday noon.
From the total amount of voters, 15,974 voted against the presidential candidate.
More than 10.2 million Yemenis are registered in the voting lists.
