Unlike the youth revolutions, AL-Qaeda ideology proved to be a big failure as it could not topple any regime across the Arab region. However, it has taken a great advantage of the current unrest storming the region.
Massive popular protests has hit Yemen demanding the overthrow of the regime, leaving hundreds killed, pushing the economy to the brink of collapse and heightening a humanitarian catastrophe.
After 11 months of resisting popular calls for his ouster, Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has signed the GCC-brokered power transfer deal under which he transferred power to the moderate Vice President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi, the consensus candidate for the upcoming presidential elections.
Hadi is expected to lead the country in the two-year transitional period in which a free parliamentarian elections will be held and a constitution will be drafted.
