In the face of worsening violence in Yemen, Tawakkul Karman the new Nobel Peace Prize laureate urged the United Nations to act on behalf of Yemen.
In a letter to Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, Karman wrote: "I urged you to take immediate and decisive action to stop the massacres and hold the perpetrators accountable…In the name of the victims and in the name of our people, I call on you to take Saleh and his regime to the International Criminal Court."
While in Doha, Qatar, the activist told the press that in her views only a U.N. intervention could truly make Yemenis believe that they were not alone in their fight against dictatorship and repression.
Only recently, Karman promised in her TV interview that she would manage to oust Saleh from the presidency adding that the women of Yemen were coming for Saleh.
And as Karman is trying to mobilize the international community, president Saleh through his government main spokesperson, al-Ganadi declared that nothing and no one, not even a U.N. resolution would make him resign, adding that the whole uprising was a plot of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Islamists to take control over Yemen.
