Taiz, the second largest city in Yemen and flashpoint of the revolution was once again targeted as the regime resumed its shelling campaign against the town, determined to crush the rebellion demanding president Saleh immediate departure.
Residents told the press that last night had been the worst night of bombing and shelling they ever witnessed so far. "Large explosions and flashes of light lit Taiz night sky leaving us to all fear for our lives. There was no respite, only shelling and screaming", said a resident whose apartment is near "Liberty Square" the main gathering ground of the revolutionaries.
The Republican Guards and the Central Security Forces attacked 4 areas of the town at the same time, creating widespread panic amongst residents. Despite the many calls from civilians, the government forces refused to allow casualties to be transported to nearby hospitals.
According to medical sources 7 people were killed so far and another 22 were injured.
The government is now accusing the Opposition of having instigated the clashes.
Since president Saleh return form the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to allegedly lead the country towards a peaceful transfer of power, the regime has concentrated much of its effort into stifling Taiz revolutionary sentiment.
Having borne most the regime's wrath through an intensive shelling campaign which has lasted for several months now the town remains defiant; unwilling to submit to Saleh's will.
