Hassan al-Wadhaf, a Yemeni cameraman who was wounded by a sniper bullet 5 days ago lost his battle on Saturday and sadly passed away. The cameraman was filming the march of protesters when he was struck by one of the government snipers, another victim of the repressive Yemeni regime. Hassan who actually caught on camera his attacker, is the second journalist to have been killed since the beginning of the uprising in February. The government has denied being responsible for the al-Wadhaf's death, claiming that the shot came from troops loyal to defected General al-Ahmar. Although it was impossible to clearly identify the shooter and thus determine whose orders he was following, eye-witnesses are adamant that the regime is to blame. Protesters on the scene recalled that Hassan al-Wadhaf was struck twice in the face, leaving him fatally wounded. Although doctors tried all they could to save his life, his wounds were too great to recover from. The journalist was working for the Arabic Media Agency, which serves several media outlets, amongst which al-Ekhbariya, al-Hurra and al-Iraqiya. AMA expressed its sorrow upon hearing Hassan's death saying: "We are saddened by the death of Hassan al-Wadhaf and offer condolences to his family and colleagues. Yemen has become one of the most dangerous places in the region for the press." The CPJ (Committee to Protect Journalist) actually recently warned in a report against the aggravating security situation in Yemen for members of the press; stressing that the government was systematically targeting journalists, both nationals and foreign. Only recently, a Suhail TV presenter's house was shelled by the government and another was arrested by the Central Security Forces, unheard form since.
