After an emergency visit to Yemen, following a recent bout of violence and bloodshed, Abdul Latif al-Zayani, the Head of the Gulf Cooperation Council left the capital, Sana’a today empty-handed.
The mediator is said to have met with vice-president Hadi and other foreign officials such as the U.S., British and French ambassadors to Yemen, discussing ways and manners to end the current crisis.
However, despite the GCC strong wishes of reviving the thrice turned down proposal of power transfer, it was the Opposition this time which objected to its terms, declaring that Saleh regime could no longer claim immunity from future prosecutions given the levels of crimes committed against the Yemeni nation.
Al-Zayani left Yemen saying that this was not an adequate time for negotiations, adding that he would return at some point in time to resume the negotiating process.
As he was leaving, the hospitals were adding yet more name to their list of deceased, bringing the death toll to over 86 since last Sunday.
Despite many calls for restraints from the international community and a timid condemnation from the U.N and the E.U, no nation has so far spoken clearly against Saleh regime.
