The United States of America has joined its voice to that of the rest of the international community in its call for restraint in Yemen, yesterday.
Amidst further reports of violence and mass killings the White House announced that its Ambassador was still pushing for a peaceful transition of power within the perimeters of the GCC brokered proposal. Only a week ago, john Brennan, the U.S counter terrorism Chief Adviser declared that Yemen was days away from the signature of a deal.
However, since things turned rather sour over the past days, many officials, diplomats and political analysts are rather pessimistic as to the chances of a deal between the Opposition and the Saleh regime.
"The United States regrets the deaths and injuries of many people during protest marches in Sanaa yesterday (Sunday). In this tense situation, we call upon all parties to exercise restraint," read the statement.
"The United States continues to support a peaceful and orderly transition in Yemen, one which addresses the Yemeni people's aspirations for peace and security.
"We remain hopeful that an agreement will be reached that leads to the signing of the GCC initiative within one week."
So far an estimated 50 people have been killed in the capital, Sana’a with hundreds of casualties receiving medical treatment from gun wounds and others.
In Taiz and Aden, other flashpoint of the revolution, several deaths were also registered, but no definite figures were issued yet.
