Working in the Yemeni media for the last nine years, the most shocking aspect to believe is that 99% of Yemeni media outlets in Yemen give great attention to analyzing, while giving little attention to investigations.
This is the one of the main reasons why corruption is growing on a daily basis in Yemen. The media is known internationally as being the watch dog for any corruption that takes place. When corrupt officials see that media, in most circumstances, is not willing to investigate, they continue in their illegal actions.
With no investigative reporting, and in a country where the judiciary system is also corrupt, what chance of change could possibly come to Yemen in the near future?
From a media prospective, journalists in Yemen say that they crave investigative reporting, but because of the financial situation that independent media goes through in Yemen, they are forced to work with the little they have. Investigative reporting needs long hours of work, and on average, it would take a media outlet a complete month at least to finish one investigation.
The Yemen Post calls on all media outlets in Yemen to start investigative reporting according to international standards. The role of the media is bigger and greater than what we have in Yemen. Violation after violation, and Yemeni media looks with no real investigative action.
We also call on the international community to financially support Yemeni media to uproot corruption through investigative reporting. Very little can go a long way in supporting a media industry that has unfortunately gone wrong, somewhat.
Yemen Post here vows to directly or indirectly revive investigative reporting, therefore, reviving the media industry with professional investigations on corrupt officials under international standards.
