At least 6 soldiers were killed and eight others injured when an explosives-laden car detonated at a security checkpoint in Yemen’s business capital Aden on Saturday night.
A military source said the car was blown up at the newly built checkpoint located between Aden and Abyan. ‘The checkpoint was built earlier today by brigade 39 and Al-Qaeda could be behind the attack,’ the source said.
The attack comes within a recent series of bombings and suicide attacks against military and security targets in the south, mostly by Al-Qaeda, whose militants have been fighting the army for months in Abyan.
In recent years, Al-Qaeda has stepped up its attacks against military and security commanders, vehicles and convoys and offices killing and injuring many troops.
Yemen is feared to be heading towards chaos if no international intervention takes place soon.
