The U.S. and the UK have urged Yemen’s Vice President Abd Rabu Mansour Haid to start an immediate transfer of power amid deepening crises and warnings of the collapse of the country, a UAE newspaper quoted informed sources as saying on Monday.
Al-Khaleej paper reported that the U.S. ambassador Gerald Feierstein and the UK acting ambassador to Sana’a informed Hadi of the request during the talks between the three on Sunday.
Saba reported the talks dealt with efforts to reconcile the political parties to start an orderly power transfer in the country.
Hadi took charge after President Saleh was injured in an assassination attempt inside his palace and transported to Saudi Arabia for treatment in early June.
On Sunday, Saleh, who has recently undergone a ninth surgery for burns he got during the attack, delivered a speech on Ramadan urging the political forces to stick with a GCC-brokered power deal and the UN Security Council declaration.
He also urged to come back to dialogue saying a constructive dialogue based on the national principles and constitution is the only way out of the current situation in Yemen.
