Ten protesters were injured when armed pro-regime people attacked a massive demonstration condemning the collective punishment of the Yemeni people in Hodeida province on Thursday.
Tens of regime supporters fired live bullets and threw rocks at the demonstrators this evening while coming back to the freedom square in downtown Hodeida, eyewitnesses said.
Thousands of antigovernment protesters took to and roamed the streets in the western port city to condemn the collective punishment of the Yemeni people by the remaining officials within the Saleh regime and urge the youth-led revolutionaries to escalate their protests to oust the regime.
Yemen has been plagued by severe crises including acute fuel, water and cooking gas shortages, day-and-night power outages and insecurity triggering fears about its future.
In a statement, the protesters said that Ramadan, the month of fasting which comes days from now, will see the last chapter in the life of the regime.
The demonstration coincided with other protests in other provinces including Baidha’a and Dhale, where the people condemned the collective punishment of the Yemeni people and price hikes.
