A prominent Al-Qaeda leader and four terrorists were killed in an air strike in Yemen’s southern province of Abyan, aden-online.net reported on Wednesday.
The website did not identify the leader as it said that the others inlcuded three terrorists from Marib province and the son of Nasser Al-Marqashi.
They were killed in Wadi Hassan in Zinjbar, the capital of Abyan, it said.
The army has been fighting Islamists for months in the southern province following declaring it as an Islamic emirate and taking over some cities.
Lately, the army with support from tribes regained control of some citeis after fierce battles with the Islamists or Sharia supporters in Zinjbar, Jaar and other cities.
Since the battles started, many terrorists, soldiers and civilians have been killed and tens of thousands of families have been displaced to nearby provinces.
