Nine people were killed when gunmen attacked a security checkpoint in Yemen's southern Lahj province on Friday, a security official in Lahj said.
Six soldiers and three gunmen died when clashes erupted following the attack on the checkpoint in Al-Habilain district, the official said.
Eyewitnesses said that the gunmen ambushed the security forces.
Four of the gunmen escaped the scene, the security official said.
