Yemen's Air Force bombed suspected Al-Qaeda positions on Monday as Islamists consolidated their control over more cities in Abyan, amid accusations the government is colluding with Islamists.
The opposition and analysts said the government had handed southern areas to militants to convince others the situation will be worse if the regime falls.
At least 4 soldiers were killed in the clashes between the forces and militants in Dofas area, informed sources said.
On Sunday, militants took over Zunjbar, the capital, and several people were killed and others injured in clashes between them and the security forces.
Meanwhile, the people have continued to flee the city where jet fighters have been seen overheads all day and battles over the last four days.
