The Joint Meeting Parties plans to hold rallies in various Yemeni cities on Thursday to protest the moves of the ruling party seeking President Saleh to say more terms in office and to go to the controversial parliamentary elections planned for April alone.
Muhammad Al-Qubati, the spokesman for the opposition coalition, said the rallies will culminate the first stage of protest by the JMP and its partners against the deteriorating situation in Yemen.
The opposition will also approve the second stage of protest against the regime that will include mass demonstrations and other activities to face the coup against the Yemeni revolution, unity and democracy, said Al-Qubati.
The remarks come as the JMP has vowed to step up popular protest against the corrupt regime demanding to reverse the constitutional amendments, which were proposed by the ruling party and approved by the House of Representatives in December.
The constitutional reforms, turned over to a special committee to study them and comment on them within 60 day, will allow Saleh to rule for two more terms to be a lifetime president.
In the last few weeks, the JMP organized rallies in Sana'a and other cities demanding political and economic reforms and condemning the unilateral moves by the ruling party including what the opposition argues is preparation for going to the upcoming controversial elections amid its boycott.
