Meeting leaders of the General People's Congress, President Ali Abdullah Saleh formed a panel from the party's general committee on Wednesday which will be in charge of holding a dialog with the opposition, as the political turmoil in the country widens.
The panel members included Shura Chairman Abdul Aziz Abdul Ghani and other prominent members of the ruling party.
Commenting on the move, Muhammad Al-Qubati, official spokesman for the Joint Meeting Parties JMP, the opposition, said that any serious inclination by the ruling party towards dialog calls for overturning all unilateral and unconstitutional moves the party has recently taken.
The opposition boycotted the parliamentary sitting on Wednesday for a fifth successive day in protest against these unilateral moves including voting for and passing the election law and forming an election commission from judges.
Some analysts also commented on the move saying:" President Saleh should realize that holding the upcoming controversial elections without the participation of the opposition will be a grave mistake that could affect his legitimacy."
"In this case, crises will increase, the JMP may oppose Saleh's stay in office after his second term expires in 2013 and then Saleh will be in a difficult situation," an analyst said.
At the meeting, the ruling party proposed constitutional amendments aiming to develop the political system and promote the women's participation.
Under the new amendments, the women were given additional 44 seats in the House of Representatives that bring the total number of the seats in Parliament to 345.
They included an amendment to the article 112 setting the term of office for president at five years and amendments for the two-chamber system.
The new amendment to the article 112 replaced the previous amendment passed 12 years ago that set the term of president at seven years.
Parliament will pass the proposed amendments on Saturday.
