A sit-in was held in front of the Amran Prosecution building requesting the authorities to free at least 26 detainees, who were arrested 5 days ago in the Day of Al-Ghadeer, a celebration that took place in the province of Amran.
The chief of prosecution ordered the General Security to release detainees from prison if they were found innocent, but authorities said that they were arrested in connection with violence in the town during their celebration.
In related news, tribal sources said that Yemeni authorities prohibited Houthis from practicing their religious rituals on the Day of Al-Ghadeer celebration, one of the most sacred holidays of the year to Yemeni Shiites.
Eyewitness reported that soldiers belonging to the General Security and Central Security illegally begun to arrest citizens during their celebrations without any charge. They added that authorities created new checkpoints before the entrance of the town to prevent citizens from gathering there.
Local sources told Yemen Post that detainees faced torture and ill-treatment during their detention for almost 5 days in prisons of Amran Province.
