The reports that said the 20th Gulf Football Cup in Yemen was likely to be postponed were untrue, head of the Arabian Gulf security panel currently inspecting sport facilities and stadiums prepared for the championship said on Tuesday.
The panel has not accomplished it mission and has not made its final decision on Yemen's readiness for hosting the event yet, Brigadier General Eisa Al-Tamim told Yemen Satellite Channel, ruling out that the event may be delayed.
The announcement followed reports that the panel was likely to request delaying the championship due to security reasons.
The commission formed at the meeting of the GCC Interior Ministers' Council in Kuwait last week and that comprised of members from the Gulf six countries, Yemen and Iraq, is greatly, by almost 70 per cent, for the postponement of the event, local and regional media, citing a Gulf sports official, have reported.
It arrived in the country on Sunday and is now inspecting the facilities and stadiums prepared for the teams, missions and other visitors to attend the cup in the two southern provinces of Aden and Abyan.
The visit was aimed at having a close look at the level of Yemen's readiness amid reports raising doubts that it can't host the championship because of the security situation in the south, reports said.
Since Yemen was approved to be the host in 2008, the situation in the country has helped local and regional doubts about the ability to make the every-two-year sports event a success.
Saying last month it was 100 per cent ready and all arrangements were completed, Yemen has always said there should be no worries about the situation in it and assured it can secure the game and make it a success.
Even Gulf officials said there was no official decision over delaying or transferring the event, as they hoped Yemen would succeed in making this important event a success.
