The Yemeni Penalize Court , specialized in the cases of terrorism and state security held on Tuesday decided to adjourn the trial of the Yemeni journalist, Abdel Elah Shaye and his friend, Abdel Karim Al-Shami, for an unspecified time.
The first session was decided to be on October 26, 2010 and the case was adjourned to November 1st, 2010, where the defendants and their defense rejected to be tried by the penalize court.
The court decided to adjourn the case for consideration to the meeting of today, Tuesday, November 9, 2010.
In last session Shaye was charged with collecting information on the security headquarters, recruiting young people to join Al-Qaeda, encouraging Al-Qaeda to assassinate President Saleh and his son and offering media consultations to the US-wanted cleric Anwar Al-Awlaki.
Security forces had raided the neighborhood of the journalist Shaye broke into his house on the evening of Monday, August 16, 2010 , arrested him and took him to an unknown destination which is likely to be the headquarter of the national security.
Observers believe that Shaye's detention for 35 days during which he faced torture and ill-treatment was a sort of harassment, something they say Sahaye's arrest was an attempt to uncover his sources.
"The arrest violates the right of the journalist to protect his sources, chiefly as Abdul Shaye’s case as he is well known for his specialization Al-Qaeda affairs in Yemen," they said, adding that impact of those movements did not mean depriving a journalist of the right to publish correct news.
The National Security Agency used information found in Shaye's personal email, which is violates the right to privacy as it was obtained without permission, said.
