Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula AQAP has claimed responsibility for sending the parcel bombs to the United States of America that were intercepted in London and Dubai more than a week ago.
In a statement published on a Jihaidst website on Friday, it said: "we in the AQAP convoy the good news and awaited surprise to the Muslim nation that we succeeded to bring down a UPS plane on September 03, 2010 after takeoff from Dubai International Airport.
The media of the enemy did not attribute the operation to us and then we did not publish that we were behind it until we sent the last explosive parcels, the statement said.
We intend to circulate the idea of parcel bombs to all Mujahedeen in the world to use them against cargo and passenger airplanes, AQAP vowed, as it said that the parcels were hard to detect and designed to be detonated in air or after reaching target.
The statement was published hours after Dubai Police Director told CNN that they had supplied Yemen with phone numbers believed to lead to identify those responsible for sending the terrorist packages that sparked a global scare.
We gave the two telephone numbers to Sana'a two days ago and we expect the Yemeni authorities will identify who used them in 72 hours, the director said.
The first number belonged to a specific person and the second could lead to a suspect that will lead to other involved persons, he said, denying any links between the parcels and the crash of the UPS plane in September.
Investigators did not say they were informed of an explosion, but a fire led to the crash, he said, after saying that a package such as those intercepted before they could their destinations in the U.S. could crumble aircraft.
