Australia has urged its citizens to avoid travel to Yemen and those already in the country to leave due to the high level of security threat.
The country's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday night it is likely that a terrorist attack happens at any moment anywhere in Yemen, and foreign embassies and hotels could be targeted in suicide attacks.
All Australians in Yemen should leave because of the security instability, the statement said.
The statement came days after France urged citizens to be cautious and families and children to leave Yemen for security reasons, and days after U.S. President Obama warned of the murderous agenda of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula AQAP.
In recent months, AQAP has stepped up attacks against security buildings, vehicles and officers in south and north Yemen and vowed it would continue targeting domestic and foreign interests in the country in retaliation for operations against its members by the Yemeni authorities with foreign support.
Many were killed and injured as the massive hunt for terrorist suspects is continuing across the republic.
