Two soldiers were killed and others injured on Thursday in an ambush that is thought to be carried out by Al-Qaeda in the Lawder district, Abyan.
A security source said armed people, believed to be Al-Qaeda terrorists, ambushed three military vehicles that were on their way as reinforcements to the region leading to the casualties.
In late September, the army launched large-scale operations against Al-Qaeda militants in the district killing, injuring and arresting many of them.
After a week, the authorities said the district was cleared of terrorists, and a hunt was launched for those who escaped.
Meanwhile, fierce confrontations are continuing between the security forces and armed people in the Modya district whose police director was shot dead by a separatist early today, and where suspected Al-Qaeda attackers ambushed the convoy of Abyan Governor killing his brother and a guard and injuring four other guards.
The developments come as the massive hunt for Al-Qaeda operatives across the country is continuing and amid a series of Al-Qaeda attacks against security officers and offices in southern and southeastern regions.
