Unidentified gunmen shot dead an intelligence officer in Yemen's southern Province of Abyan, two days after the murder of head of investigations at the political security office in Lahj Province, local sources were quoted as saying by the Alsahwa website on Monday.

Masked armed people fired at Qasim Al-Dhale'e while leaving his home in Zunjbar city killing him immediately, the website reported, adding the murder took place at 11:30 pm.

Also, it said that police director of the Shuqra district survived an assassination plot in the city and he got minor injuries.

The attempts came within a series of assassinations of intelligence and security officers in southern and southeastern areas in the last few months.

The plots were blamed on Al-Qaeda, which claimed responsibility for recent attacks on intelligence and public security offices in the region, and sometimes on the separatist movement, responsible for the rioting which has been shaking the south in the last few years.

None has been arrested in connection with assassinations yet.
