The Qatari government is directly contacting Houthi leader Abdul Malik Al-Houthi with the aim to contain the aggravating situation in northern Yemen, local sources were quoted as saying on Tuesday.
The move comes two days after President Saleh said Yemen was looking forward to Qatari communication with the Houthi Group to convince it to stick to the ceasefire terms reached this year that ended a six-year war in Saada and Harf Sufyan district, Amran.
The UAE Al-khaleej newspaper quoted informed sources as saying the Qatari initiative comes in response to Saleh's call and through direct contact with the group to convince it to implement the ceasefire as a prelude to implement the 2007 Doha peace agreement signed by the government and the group.
Meanwhile, sources close to Houthi leader dismissed reports the release of civilian and military captives, over 280, of those who arrested during recent confrontations in Harf Sufyan, came under Qatari pressure or in response to a Qatari call to calm the situation and start effective mediation to resolve the conflict in the far north forever.
The sources said Qatar had informed the group that it would not start any mediation to resolve the security tension and deteriorating humanitarian situation except after the climate is suitable and encouraging to avoid a scenario like the one which hampered the 2007 mediation.
Also, Qatar's Prime Minister Hamad Bin Jasim was quoted as saying that his country is seeking a serious mediation to implement the Qatari-brokered peace deal.
The initiative also followed a short visit to Sana'a by Qatar's Emir last month during which Yemen and Qatar agreed to activate the Doha peace deal.
Many were killed, injured and arrested in recent confrontations between Houthis and tribesmen and some army posts in Harf Sufyan district, Amran, and reports surfaced the region was on the verge of a seventh war.
