Police said Monday a dangerous explosive device was discovered near the houses of Taiz Governor Khalid Al-Soufi and Taiz Police Director Yahya Al-Haisami.
The device could have caused a real tragedy but a technical fault was behind its failure, police said.
It contained materials more dangerous than TNT and was electrically connected to a cell phone, detonators, explosive fuses and steel sheets, police said, adding that skilled terrorists must be behind the device that was put inside a 10-liter water cooler.
A child vendor discovered the device when they opened the bag in which it was put thinking it was a garbage bag, police made clear.
A wide investigation into the failed bombing in the dreaming city is underway.
Separately, a huge fire broke out on Monday at one of the stores of Al-Jala'a Military Camp in the district of Al-Buraikah, Aden, but no casualties were reported.
The fire that occurred at noon caused major material losses, independent sources said.
Initial information revealed it was caused by the explosion of ammunition inside the store, while the authorities said an electrical fault that led to the explosion of a power generator inside the store was to blame.
The sources also said they had heard a big explosion that was followed by massive fire. Civil Defense rushed to the site and brought under control the fire after a one-hour battle, they said.
A security cordon was imposed around the site and reporters were prevented from approaching it.
