Secretary of State at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Alistair James Burt said on Tuesday that facing Yemen's economic challenges is the best way to beat terrorists in the country.
During the meeting with President Saleh, Burt said there should be a focus on working together to boost Yemen's national economy and create more jobs to reduce poverty and tackle extremism.
At the meeting, the UK official said Britain had allocated $ 150 million that will be used to finance development and jobs programs in Yemen.
He praised the Yemeni efforts in fighting terrorism, affirming his country's support for the efforts that can help boost the regional security and stability amid fears or growing Al-Qaeda presence in the Arabian Peninsula.
Burt arrived in Yemen early Tuesday for a two-day visit. The main purpose of the visit was to focus on the bilateral relationship between the two countries and British commitment to supporting Yemen.
