Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula AQAP called on Friday the tribes in the Abeedah Region in Yemen's Marib Province to revolt against the government as the security campaign against terrorist suspects intensifies in the area.
In a videotape by an unidentified spokesman for AQAP, the group denied it was behind the death of chief of staff of Brigade 315 Muhammad Al-Shayef, saying accusing Al-Qaeda of the killing was a ploy targeting the tribes.
The assassination should be blamed on the government which is seeking to humiliate the tribes, the spokesman said.
'Oh! the people of the disdainful Marib, your silence over the crimes dares your enemy to further attack you. Your enemy yesterday killed your women and here they are again committing the same crime…where are the free who are devoted to protecting your women,' he said inciting the tribes to face the government.
The military campaigns with support from U.S. fighter jets are continuing to target your homes and violate their inviolability, he added.
After Al-Shayef and some of his escorts were killed in an ambush early this month, the government vowed to hunt and bring those responsible for the heinous crime to justice.
The security forces have launched several attacks on the Abeedah region where the main suspect in the ambush, Al-Aqeely, was said hiding.
On the other hand, the Interior Ministry reported on Friday that the security forces in the province had thwarted an attempted attack on the main pipeline transporting oil from Safer to the Ras Eisa in Hodeida Province.
Crowds from Al Al-Jjei from the region dug around the pipeline trying to blow it up but the force intervened on time forcing them to flee, the ministry posted on its website.
No damages were caused to the pipeline and the attempt was the third in less than a month, it added.
On the other hand, security has been tightened at vital installations after gunmen, in the notorious province, attacked the power station and a military camp.
In recent weeks, Marib has seen violence when tribes fought the authorities after the assassination of the municipal council secretary general in an airstrike that was said carried out by a U.S. jet.
The tribe of the official, Al-Shabawani, retaliated for his death fighting the security forces and committing vandalism.
