The European Union is currently seeking to sponsor a national dialogue in Yemen amid political stalemate that may cast shadow on the upcoming parliamentary elections set for April next year.
The acting ambassador of Spain to the county Marcos Vega said the EU is working hard to bring Yemeni political parties to the table after they failed to reach compromise.
Meeting Vice President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi along with EU envoys to the country, Vega said reconciling the parties is a basic goal of the EU which supports Yemen and already concerns with the country's crucial affairs.
The meeting also discussed other topics mainly economic and the latest internal development.
However, the spokesman for the Joint Meeting Parties, an opposition coalition, has denied that there was an EU initiative to sponsor a dialog with the ruling party.
The opposition in Yemen is ready to talk and address crucial issues without mediation or a sponsor, said Muhammad Al-Nuaimi.
The General People's Congress Party, ruling party, and opposition are trading accusations over avoidance for establishing a responsible dialog according to the February Agreement, 2009, under which the parliamentary elections were delayed until 2011 to have time for electoral and economic reforms.
Syria was also reported trying to sponsor a dialog to pull Yemen out of the current political stalemate. Officials from the Syrian Ba'ath Party arrived in Yemen in last months and held talks with officials from all parties. But it seems the outcomes of the talks were not positive.
