Somali pirates have hijacked a Yemeni cargo ship about 10 nautical miles off Aden port, a navigation source told Alsahwa website on Thursday.
It was en route for the United Arab Emirates and carrying 4500 tonnes of gas cylinders and other products. The ship, that was seized on Monday morning after it left Abyan coast, belonged the Yemeni Azal Trading Company.
24 crew members were aboard. They included 5 Yemenis and the rest were Ghanaians, Indians, Pakistanis and Sudanese.
According to some media outlets, the owners of the ship had alerted the NATO Anti-Piracy Mission in the region about the hijacking.
