At least twenty people have been injured when police broke up a protest in southern Yemen in which the people rallied during a funeral for one of those who were killed in clashes with police last week.
Local sources in Dhale province said that the armed forces of the Brigade 35 directly fired on the protesters injuring twenty of them, some in critical condition. Mass arrests took place as well, according to the sources.
Officials in the city including director of the Social and Labor Affairs Office and director of the Education Office were among the arrested.
Also, motorbikes were seized in the protest that coincided with the southern prisoner day after the people started to mark every Monday and Thursday as prisoner days.
Dhale is one of the southern cities worst hit by rioting and protests organized by the secessionist movement amid south separation bids.
In recent weeks, the government has taken tough security measures including imposing security cordons around several districts, launching raids in search for outlaws and terrorists and cutting mobile phone services.
