A spokesman for the Saudi Defense Ministry played down on Tuesday the significance of an Al Houthi initiative, suggesting that the Houthi rebels withdraw from Saudi regions on condition the Saudi army stops fighting them, Saudi reports said.
However, Ibrahim Malik said that Saudi Arabia was considering the truce and that the ministry is to announce a final decision over it later today.
The rebel leader Abdul Malik Al Houthi announced the initiative on Monday, saying it came to prevent further bloodshed.
Saudi troops launched military action against the Houthi insurgents, who have been fighting the Yemeni army for more than six years in the far north, after they seized Saudi regions on the Yemeni-Saudi border.
The rebels justified their seizures saying they came after they were attacked by Saudi troops in support of their Yemeni counterparts.
Earlier, Saudi authorities said they cleansed up their regions that were taken by the rebels, forcing many infiltrators out of Saudi soil.
After the announcement, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia said it had recovered 20 bodies out of 26 national soldiers who went missing during battling the rebels.
