Syria's Foreign Minister Waleed Al-Mualim has said that dialog is the only approach that can help resolve all conflicts in Yemen, pointing to a failed Syrian mediation between Sana'a and Tehran, on one hand, and the Yemeni government and the Houthi insurgents, on the other hand.
Al-Mualim's remarks were given during a political review of Syria's foreign policy in 2009 delivered in Parliament on Monday, accordingto Syrian News Station.
He touched upon his country's efforts to help tackle the years-long war between the Yemeni army and the rebels in the far north, saying regrettably some forces, he did not name, have intervened leading to no diplomatic compromise to the situation until now.
Amid the persistent confrontations, Syria still believes in dialog as the suitable approach to prevent further bloodshed in Yemen, he said.
Troops and the rebels have been in a sporadic war in Saada sinec 2004, and in mid August this year fresh confrontations erupted between the two sides drawing the world's attention and posing fears amid tens of thousands of civilians fleeing their homes and others killed.
Yemen has many times accused Iranian religious authorities of aiding the rebels, urging the Iranian official side to block such aid. More recently, Foreign Minister Abu Bakr Al-Qirbi said authorities had much evidence about Iranian involvement in the conflict, the accusation supported by the west criticizing Iranian uncooperative role in the region.
