Yemeni coast guard forces seized a Pakistani boat carrying a large quantity of drugs estimated at about two and a half tons of (hashish) during an attempt to smuggle them to Yemeni territories, in Al-Mahra’a governorate.
The Coast Guard commander in Al-Mahra’a governorate, Colonel Hussein Masood Srun, told governmental sources that Coast Guard forces in Qishin district and Nashtoon location in Al-Mahra’a governorate observed the entering of four wooden boats to Yemeni territorial waters illegally.
In the light of that, Coast Guard forces traced and prosecuted those suspected boats capturing one boat, while the other three escaped, near Al-Qishin district(170) km south of Al-Ghaidha the capital city of Al-Mahra’a governorate.
He added saying immediately after seizing the boat, members of the Coast Guard Forces searched it, and found the large quantity of drugs.The security forces seized the quantity and the boat, which was carrying the Pakistani nationals, according to him.
He pointed out that the Coast Guard forces in Al-Mahra’a are continuing the search operation and patrols in the sea in search for the rest of the boats and the fugitive sailors from the boat that was detained.
He added that after the completion of all measures of the drug seizures issue, the drug dealers will stand in front of the judiciary to receive their punishment.
Srun also revealed that they would not hesitate to do their utmost to deal with any attempt to smuggle drugs to Yemen via the coasts, pointing out that drug smuggling, trafficking and abuse is of serious crimes, which required solidarity and all national efforts to combat them firmly; as the scourge of drugs threaten people and communities as a whole.
