Yemen is considering aid delivery for the rebellion-affected people in the north through Saudi Arabia territory amid persistent confrontations between the government forces and the Houthi rebels.
According to a report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Yemen’s Minister of Public Health and Population said that negotiations between the two neighbors over the matter had started.
The idea comes after relief organizations called on the Yemeni government and the rebels to provide safe routes to deliver aid for thousands of displaced people.
In this context, the UN coordinator at the International Organization for Migration Walter Bruzzon said one of the most important points the UN Yemen Mission is currently discussing is how to provide aid for the affected through Saudi northern parts.
Moreover, the media official at the World Food Program Maria Santamarina said that the WFP last month sent a negotiator to Saudi Arabia to identify supply, store and port courses to accelerate aid delivery for the Yemenis affected by the rebellion in the north.
Yemen and Saudi Arabia showed cooperation on the matter, with the latter allowing in relief organizations to evaluate the situation ahead of starting delivery operations.
Earlier, the UN called on the Yemeni government and the Houthi fighters to cease fire and allow relief organizations to do their jobs toward the affected. Then the government announced the army was suspending offensive operations, a short-lived truce that was followed by fierce confrontations.
