Local sources in Abyan reported that unspecified armed people attacked the house of Abyan Governor Ahmed Al-Miysari using medium-sized weapons as well as RGB’s. The same source revealed that the attack left no causalities; however, the house was badly damaged.
Eye witnesses told media outlets that a powerful explosion rocked Muwdiah city on Saturday’s early morning and targeted the Central Security headquarters in the city, but it is unclear whether they were casualties or not.
Further, 100 armed people introduced a checkpoint in Lawder’s Al-Ein area, asking the passers to show their identity cards. Also, hundreds of tribesmen in Yafe’ and Abyan left for Abyan city in an attempt to lift the besiege on Sheikh Tareq Al-Fadhli’s house.
This comes following bloody clashes between the followers of Southern Mobility Movement and security forces in Abyan on Friday. The clashes left behind 20 people killed and other 20 injured, including six security personnel.
Observers mentioned that security situation in Southern and Eastern provinces are expected to escalate, especially when this accident could be taken as pretext for mobility followers to launch attacks on security and army units and personnel to take revenge for their fellows killed during the demonstrations.
In related news, local sources in Abyan stated that unknown people attacked with three RPG shells the storage facilities of Al-Maz Company for Cotton, a company owned by President Saleh’s nephew Yahya Mohammed Abdullah Saleh.
There has been no immediate comment by Yahya, also the commander of Central Security Forces, owns several companies working in several fields including oil and gas, about the attack.
In a released statement signed by them, Former President of People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen Ali Nasser Mohammed and former Prime Minister of United Yemen Haidar Abu Bakr Al-Attas stressed the unity can never be defended by blood, but rather by justice, partnership and equal citizenship.
Denouncing Zinjubar events, both leaders noted this comes within the constant attempts by authority to crack the will of masses of the peaceful Southern Mobility which work to extract their ransacked political and civil rights.
To start a dialogue, they demanded authorities to withdraw armed and security forces as well as Republican and Special Forces from cities and villages, not to militarize the civil life, lift the siege imposed on Zinjubar, release the prisoners detained over the peaceful Southern Mobility and stop the hunting of people.
