The Yemeni government on Friday sent a letter to the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon urging action to stop systematic massacres of civilians in and blockade on the province of Taiz.
The letter came a day after the Houthi militants committed a new massacre in the province.
On Thursday, at least 8 civilians were killed and around 30 others injured in Houthi mortar attacks on residences in the districts of Sinah, Al-Jahmaliyah and Al-Shamasi, local medical sources said.
Moreover, the militants shelled the Al-Thawra hospital while medics were rushing injured people mostly children into it, the sources said.
"It is very confirmed the militants have been firing tanks and artilleries on populated areas where there are no military targets. The militants are using heavy weapons repeatedly and deliberately to kill civilians in an obvious violation of the laws of war that requires UN action," the government wrote in the letter.
Lately, the UN expressed deep concerns over the dire food security situation in Taiz as aid agencies said the six-months blockade by the Houthis has left the city without supplies especially medicines.
Meanwhile, the battles between the pro-government forces and the militants are continuing in several districts in the province, sources within the pipers resistance said.
On Thursday, a dozen of fighters from both sides were killed and others injured, the sources said.
Battles between the pro-government forces and the Houthis are continuing in the cities of Marib, Jawf, Baidha, Ibb and Dhali coinciding with airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition.
