At least 7 civilians including patients were killed after Houthi militants shelled the Al-Thawra and Al-Rawdha Hospitals and populated areas in Yemen's province of Taiz on Sunday.
Local sources said the militants fired rockets that hit some sections of the hospital as battles between the national forces backed by the popular resistance and the militants were raging in midtown.
The hospital's management shut down the dengue fever section where several rockets landed, they said, pointing out the hospital has been under Houthi attacks for two days.
The Houthi militants have been imposing a siege around Taiz preventing commodities from reaching millions of people.
In the past two days, they tightened the siege blocking medical aid as they continued to pound civilians killing and injuring many of them.
On social media, activists published their photos while using donkeys to infiltrate medical aid into the city.
On the other hand, the national forces and resistance fighters waged fierce battles against the militants in the districts of the republican palace, Al-Dhabab and Thabat, military sources said.
They advanced but have not seized the republican palace yet, they said, adding that more civilians were killed and injured in Houthi shelling on populated areas in the city.
Major General, Adnan Al-Hammadi, one of the military commanders leading the battles in Taiz, said they armed forces from the 35th brigade launched battles against the Houthis on several warfronts Sunday.
The offensive came within the plan to drive the Houthis out of the city and remove the siege, he said, affirming that seven positions were retaken from the militants.
