The confrontations between the pro-government and pro-Houthi forces escalated in several Yemeni cities including Marib and Taiz where tens of Houthis were killed and arrested.
In Marib, fierce battles are continuing in the Nakhlah district after the pro-government forces repelled a Houthi attack, locals said, adding that more than 27 Houthis have been killed and around 13 others arrested.
In this city, the Saudi-led Arab coalition conducted nine airstrikes against Houthi positions and weapon depots killing many militants, the sources said.
In Taiz, locals confirmed that battles broke out early today and sporadically continued for several hours.
There were casualties from both sides and from the civilians as the Houthis shelled residences, they said without giving statistics.
Moreover, well-informed sources said Aden and Baidha witnessed clashes but there were no details.
In Aden, military chiefs from the fourth command loyal to president Hadi met with popular resistance leaders and fighters for the first time since violence broke in this southern port city months ago.
The sources said the meetings discussed how to unite the resistance and bolster its capabilities to prevent the Houthis from infiltrating into the city.
Separately, agencies reported the Saudi army repelled Houthi attacks on Saudi border towns in which around three Saudi soldiers were killed and injured.
The reports said Houthis and forces loyal to the former president launched ground attacks on and shelled with rockets towns in the Saudi province of Jazan.
The Saudi forces in collaboration with the Arab coalition repelled the ground attacks killing all Houthi forces and warplanes destroyed rocket launchers located in Yemeni areas, they elaborated.
The border between Yemen and Saudi Arabia has been experiencing exchange of missile and ground incursions from both sides since the Saudi-led military operation was launched against the Houthis in late March.
