The workers at Yemen's Marib gas-fired power threatened to start on Sunday a full strike and threatened to cut electrical loads in protest at the continuous detention of an executive from the facility, Almasdar Online reported on Saturday.
Head of the union of the station workers, Abdullah Monief, said the strike will start Sunday and the decrease of electrical loads will be first by 30%. "The Marib power line could be disconnected then" .
"We gave the authorities five days to release the executive but nothing has been achieved on his release," he said, adding "now we have no option but to strike".
Tribesmen in eastern Marib kidnapped deputy general manager of the Station on Tuesday and the mastermind of the abduction has been identified, according to the website.
The kidnapper, Hassan Mabkhout Al-Hayek, is demanding a contract for the second phase of the Marib power station and the Marib electricity project, it said quoting a statement by well-informed sources.
Tribes in the notorious Marib province, about 170 km northeast the capital Sanaa, usually abduct foreigners and senior officials to pressure the authorities meet special demands.
