Officials at the Interior Ministry confirmed this Sunday, two days before Eid al-Adha is due to commence that it will dispatch extra security personnel in the streets of the capital, Sana’a and across all Yemeni provinces as to ensure that terror militants will not disrupt the celebrations.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Public Relations and Moral Guidance, the Interior Ministry has organized and perfected its security preparations, determined to allow Yemenis to have a safe and eventless Eid following months of tensions and disruptions.
“Security personnel will be dispatched at all places of gatherings: Mosques and public parks as part of the ministry’s comprehensive security plan,” said an official under cover of anonymity.
Beyond fears of yet another terror attack the ministry said to be concerned about road related violence and accidents. Every year, as families travel to and fro the capital to join their relatives for Eid, Yemen has experienced a spike in car accidents.
This year, the ministry will distribute leaflets and brochure urging drivers to drive responsibly and stick to traffic regulations to make Yemen’s roads safer. Too often said the traffic police speeding motorists have been the cause of deadly accidents.
Moreover, officials have called on citizens to be mindful of their community when using fireworks or carrying weapons, as such display can cause much disturbance.
Following weeks of political tensions and growing fear that Yemen is losing its battle against al-Qaeda, Yemen’s coalition government wants to see an uneventful Eid before heading to another round of negotiations at the NDC.
