Hossam Sa’ad, MTN Yemen Director General received on Thursday an award which recognizes MTN as Yemen 2013 best investment company, an achievement which was hailed by great many state officials and dignitaries, including Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, Iqbal Yassin Bahader, Fares Saqqaf, Advisor to the President as well as others.
Established in September 2000, MTN Yemen as a local and international sharing company, it soon grew into a major GSM provider.
Keen to promote social responsibility and act a pioneer in local development, MTN has worked to support as well as implement several programs in areas of education, health and entrepreneurship. Back in 2012 MTN was first to encourage other companies to develop a sense of social responsibility, whereby companies “would compete in serving society in the same manner they compete in providing different products and services.”
Most recently MTN Foundation (February 2014) launched its Technical Educational Institutes, which aims to accommodate Yemen Youth by enabling them to develop skills which will in turn give them a fighting chance on the work market.
The Head of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mohammed Abdo Saeed, hailed MTN for its efforts in promoting education and technical skills, calling on the private sector to emulate MTN’s efforts to that regard as to become a part of Yemen’s reconstruction.
State officials all agreed that as Yemen undergoes such core institutional and social changes, companies will have to embrace social responsibility and thus support Yemen’ social and economic growth.
Mohammed Farouk, a prominent businessman in Yemen said that the yearly investment award is a good way to encourage business opportunities in Yemen and improve the standard of services.
MTN Yemen is headed by a big group of businessmen led by Shaher Abdulhak Saleh"who is the chairman of MTN Yemen.
Last week, Shaher Abdulhaq was also named one of the most successful businessmen in the Middle East.
