Spokesperson for the Saudi-led coalition, Ahmed Asiri, said on Tuesday the situation in Yemen now requires to defeat the Houthi militants and end war in key cities immediately.
In an interview with the Sky News Arabia TV, Asiri said the battle to retake the capital Sanaa is not being given priority at the moment while affirming that the coalition is being focused on the cities of Marib and Taiz.
"We have capabilities that prevail over those of the Houthi militants and forces loyal to the former president including our control of Yemen's airspace," he said.
The coalition has been since March bombing the Houthis and pro-former president forces that ousted the government of Yemen in late 2014.
So far, the support it is providing including airstrikes and weapons has helped the pro-government forces to retake the southern regions from the Houthis.
In the meanwhile, Asiri said reasons for why defeating the Houthis in other cities is taking more time include that the militants are being stationed at populated areas.
"This tactic by the Houthis and their allies requires us to conduct precise raids so that no civilians are hurt and infrastructures affected," he told the TV.
The coalition has recently deployed thousands of Arab troops and hundreds of tanks, armoured cars and other equipment to help retake Marib and the adjacent province of Jawf.
Lately, reports said the reinforcements come also within massive preparations for retaking Sanaa.
