The Yemeni forces with support from the popular resistance and the Saudi-led coalition have started the battle to drive the Houthi militants out of Marib and Jawf provinces.
More than 250 tanks and 8 Apaches from the coalition are participating in the Marib battle, military sources said on Monday, pointing out that there have been massive preparations in recent days for the main battle to retake the capital Sanaa from the militants.
In the first day of the fight, the two sides exchanged missile attacks with more than a dozen of fighters from both sides killed and others injured, the sources said.
With support from forces loyal to the former president, the Houthi militants ousted the UN-backed government and seized Sanaa in late 2014 and have been since expanding by force in most cities.
So far, the government forces have driven the militants out of southern cities.
The fighting is continuing battles in middle and northern cities including Taiz and Baidha amid worsening humanitarian and health conditions.
Organizations are warning of the deterioration of the country's healthcare system due to lacks of medicines, fuels and power that have forced many hospitals to shut down.
Moreover, organizations are calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in order to deliver relief aid to 80% of the total population in need of emergency aid.
