Unidentified gunmen suspected of having links to Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) shot a soldier dead in the southern Yemen port city of Aden, security official told Yemen Post on Monday.
Gunmen killed the soldier in Al-Mansoura district of Aden this morning, said the security official, declining to give any further details.
Separately, local sources from Aden told Yemen Post anonymously that some pro-separation gunmen blocked the main roads in the city in a bid to forcibly impose a complete civil disobedience.
They said sporadic gunshots are heard every now and then from many areas in the city, especially from Al-Mansoura Central Prison, striking fear and panic into the hearts of the residents.
Online Aden News website reported that the main roads of Aden are blocked and that the Southern Movement followers are firing gunshots into the sky.
The Pro-Secessionist Southern Movement, which calls for an outright independence of the south, is very active in Aden, exploiting the
southerners hardships and poverty.
Security situation has spiraled in Aden recently, with militants of Ansar al-Sharia, al-Qaeda offshoot in the country, roaming the main streets of the city unchallenged.
The terror network has taken over some towns in the south, taking an advantage of the week, distracted government.
