The Republican Guard Al-Sama Brigade continued its intense bombardment on tribal-held posts in Arhab area, some 35 km north of the Yemeni capital of Sana'a for the sixth consecutive day, leaving one killed and others injured.
The army bombed villages of Bani Jarmaz, Arhab, and Nihm areas.
In a press conference held today, the spokesman for the Arhab tribal alliance Mohammed al-Arshani said that the Republican Guard forces escalated its air and land bombing of residential areas in Arhab, Nihm and Bani Jarmouz districts.
He noted that the continued airstrikes has triggered a state of panic among the residents, especially women and children.
Both Republican Guards leadership and the tribal alliance traded accusations as to who initiated the renewal of attacks between the two sides. The republican guards say that the tribal militias had shelled military units, while tribal sources insisted that the army troops had first bombarded its villages.
The clashes first erupted between the two sides when tribesmen attempted to forcibly prevent forces of Al-Sama brigade from leaving the area, thinking they were sent as reinforcements to clamp down on peaceful protesters.
The bold move was rebuffed by the forces, sparking an armed conflict that left dozens killed.
