Hundreds of antigovernment protesters were injured when the republican guards and pro-government bullies and snipers intercepted and fiercely attacked a demonstration calling for the ouster of President Saleh in Taiz province.
The republican guards and the government supporters fired live bullets at and attacked with batons and rocks the demonstrators leaving dozens shot, some in serious condition.
Heavy fire was heard at Al-Qasr Street and the protesters ran away to avoid being killed by the merciless forces and thugs, eyewitnesses said.
The pro-government snipers also shot a 55-year old woman while on her roof pouring water on the protesters. Her condition was very serious after a bullet had hit her chest.
There were also other wounded due to teargas.
Some of the injured with live bullets have undergone surgeries, with activists who witnessed the attack vowing to escalate the protests until the government was ousted.
Medical sources said the injuries were in the heads, chests and legs of the protesters as the protests continued in most of the Yemeni cities to call for an immediate ouster o the Saleh regime.
Activists also said that 54 protesters were arrested and the number of those who went missing and were believed to be arrested was expected to rise as they continued to receive calls asking after relatives.
The republican guards set up new checkpoints on the streets and military vehicles were deployed to the streets in large numbers, in a move that the activists said exposed the ill-will of the government to explode the military situation in the province.
