Mediators led by social dignitaries and officials could contain the mess after clashes erupted between those in solidarity with Al-Ayyam Newspaper and police in Yemen's business capital of Aden.
Those who were inside the paper's office in Crater city, about 30 people who went there just to show their solidarity after its suspension in connection with anti-unity rhetoric last year, handed themselves to the mediation committee in a good-will act.
The people were then handed to authorities which in turn sent them to prison.
The clashes erupted on Monday, with a soldier reported killed and other anti-riot troops wounded.
Previous reports said police raided the office and the house of editor-in-chief of the paper and then the fan of the papers returned fire.
The paper was halted among about 8 other publications last year when the south was hit by many protests that turned violent with demonstrators urging better rights and solutions to many issues clashing with police.
Many were reported dead and mass arrests took place.
