Eritrean pirates have seized six Yemeni fishing boats with 90 crews onboard, in a fresh attack that deepens the suffering of Yemeni fishermen who have many times complained about what they face in sea by the Eritrean but seen no action by their government.
Fishermen who were among those who were attacked but released and deported on a single boat arrived early Monday in Yemen's western Hodeida province and they told their story to the west-based Coastguard.
The pirates intercepted use while fishing in international waters in the Red Sea and took our boats by force to an Eritrean Island, called Hermel, they said.
Before they forced us to the island, they held us for six hours in sea, threatening us with guns and taking our properties on our boats, estimated at millions of Yemeni riyals, they said.
There are another 10 fishermen with five boats still in the custody of the Eritrean, the fishermen said, as they appealed the authorities to intervene and release their boats and fellows.
"We have many times complained about what we face while fishing in international waters in the Red Sea by the Eritrean. But we see no action by the government."
This year, dozens of Yemeni fishermen were reported attacked by Eritrean and released with their boats and properties confiscated.
