Local sources from Taiz governorate revealed to the Yemen Post that tens of angry people, mostly from Sharab district, clashed with security forces Wednesday in Taiz city after witnesses reported hearing gunfire and unconfirmed reports said one man had been injured one another killed by a policeman.
It is an unfortunate and extraordinary event as a police officer takes a life of an innocent person, sources close to the victim said, adding that the incident deserves careful review and close public scrutiny.
They also said that a proper inquest be supposed to provide liability and help keep professionalism within the police force.
Apparently, Yemenis believe that it is not surprising that inquest proceedings favor the government authorities and police will not investigate their fellow officers, and the prosecutor, whose daily job as expected involves a cooperative relationship with police, will not conduct the fair investigation.
For his part, lawyer Ali Mohamed Al-Masmari said that a fair investigation is critical to the public trust and to effective law enforcement.
"The inquest determines the cause of death, the circumstances leading to the use of deadly force, and whether the force was justified" he said.
