Over thousands years, Yemen has been ruled by those who were loved and others who were cursed. Some ruled with love and fairness, while others ruled by fear and oppression.
With the development of countries and the spread of change, democracy and technology, some countries still choose to stay the same.
However, they say that old is gold, and that is true for Yemen.
From a kingdom that was the greatest of its time, to a country that begs other countries for charity and alms. From a land where trees of fruits were on every inch of land, to a country that doesn’t have enough drinking water. From people who were known for their generosity and love for others, to people who spread hatred and harm innocent civilians. From rulers who build nations to rulers who destroy them.
Yemen, with its massive minerals, oil, and gas reserves could eventually turn out to be the next prosperous gulf nation, if corruption from those who rule is stopped.
It’s no coincidence that the sudden elite in business are also famous politicians. From my knowledge, those who are politicians are paid to build the country politically and economically. In Yemen, politics is a door to build oneself economically, and not the nation.
Over the last ten years, Yemenis have become more aware of their rights, and are demanding immediate change. This has not forced the elite to stop stealing the country’s wealth.
Those who read this and feel that I am wrong are one of two people: either they are not aware of the corruption in Yemen with its details, or are involved in corruption themselves so they feel no shame.
I agree that President Saleh is direly doing his best to help build the country he helped destroy 15 years ago, but he must start building the nation by starting with his inner circle first.
With all the negativity that surrounds Yemen today due to the failure of the government, we still feel that a brighter future awaits the sons and daughters of Sheba.
